Jakarta has succeeded in becoming a prime shopping haven for purchasing almost anything. Imported luxury items are sold at prices competitive with Asia’s other major shopping centers. For many products, especially textiles and garments, prices are far cheaper. English is widely spoken and attentive service guaranteed. Major mega-shopping and entertainment centers are located throughout the city, from the elite Plaza Indonesia (adjacent to Grand Hyatt), Plaza Senayan and Mal Taman Anggrek in central Jakarta, to the vast Mal Pondok Indah in a nearby southern suburb. Traditional hand – crafted arts can be found at Sarinah and Pasaraya Blok-M department stores. Both are conveniently located in south Jakarta, and remain the best one – stop shopping places for Indonesian arts and crafts from throughout the archipelago. Antique and curio collectors enjoy bargaining for almost anything – including every from of brassware, Chinese porcelains and a vast array of wayang puppets – at the colorful Jalan Surabaya flea market. Real bargains can be gotten at many of the city’s street markets, some open by day and others by night. These traditional markets provide a lively glimpse into the city’s grassroots life. Among the major traditional markets are Pasar Cikini, Pasar Tanah Abang, Pasar Senen, Pasar Baru and Pasar Mayestic. For electronic items, computers, and clothing the best range of stock with absolute bargain prices is in the Mangga Dua area of west Jakarta.

Plaza Indonesia

It’s the Fashion Avenue

Even though it has strategic position, the shopping centre which is placed right under Grand Hyatt Hotel is still giving us comfortness to shop. Never stop you steps into Plaza Indonesia so we still catch up with the world’s fashion trend.Just scratch your credit card or just give away your money to bring home men and women wardrobe from famous designers in our fancy boutiques like Debenhams or Versace. Define retails facilities provide jewelry shops, books, souvenirs, drugs, flowers, until travel agents and restaurants of the finest selection. We still can have fun while doing the window shopping in here by its unique and sophisticated design from each shop.

EX Plaza

Entertainment X’enter, better known as eX, positions itself as an entertainment center – fX is ut younger sister. Free live music lights up eX in the evening – on Fridays from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. and on Saturdays and Sundays between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m.

As an urban hangout, eX offers and interesting mix of trendy shops. Cosmetic brands that are quite difficult to find Jakarta, such as NYX from U.S, Korean face shop and Skin Food, have opened outlets at eX. Fashionista should pop into Axara, the chic boutique from Paris. Gadget lovers can amuse themselves with the latest electronic gadgetry at Sony Centre.

Unlike other malls in Jakarta that usually house at least one food court, you can not find any at eX, however, it does offer various cafes and restaurants, like Fish&Co, En Dining, Shabu-Shabu house, Sandwich Time, Bread Papa and Starbucks.

Note: eX has undergone a minor facelit and looks hipper-however, I prefer the previous design when I could go to eX directly from Plaza Indonesia’s Kinokuniya bookstore (especially when I’m in a hurry) without having to stroll around the shops that connect Plaza Indonesia and eX. However, surely it would not be a problem if you have plenty of time to window-shop.
